THE GREAT AMERICAN Wiener DAWG WEEKEND
Starting with an elegant Wine-Tasting Event: The Wiener Dawg Art Exhibition Opening on Saturday, October 3rd at 5;30 PM, the event is hosted for all 3 days by the Sand Gnats & Grayson Stadium.
Helping to expand tourism into all parts of Savannah, the Weekend features venues all over the Savannah / Chatham County area.
“We’ve started this due to number of tourists who have come in and requested info on activities for the Weekend” stated Scott West, Co-Chairman for the races and Founder of the Savannah Dachshund Club which hosts the annual event. “Dachshund Rescue of North America (DRNA) is honored to be chosen as the Official Charity of the Savannah Dachshund Club” added Ellen Hatcher, the local rep for DRNA and Co-Chairman for the races.

Guests enjoy Official Wiener Dawg Race T-shirts, Awards for the Winners, The Wiener Dog Fashion Show/ Costume Contest (Great for the older dachshunds whom might not wish to race) . This Year also features the WIENER PET SHOPPING BAZAAR - with local and national vendors selling merchandise at Grayson Stadium.
LOCAL CELEBRITY: From Entertainers to champion Athletes, local VIPS will be on hand to help with the Festival. Dance Troups, Choirs, Singers, all helping the low-rider dawgs !
From sailor hats to Bavarian lederhosen, to Sherlock Holmes Deerstalker hats, to ketchup/mustard hot dog costumes to ballerina tutus to military camouflage, you’ll see some unique canine sartorial expressions. Display table for information on over 23 other local pet charities is also provided for the public.

Savannah Dachshund Club is the local organization which holds monthly meetings for dachshund folks in the Coastal GA/SC region. Founded by Georgia Natives; Scooter Pie the Piebald Dachshund in 2005 with his pet primate “Scott West”, we meet on the First Sunday of Each Month at 2 PM at the Fountain in Forsyth Park, near the corner of Bull Street and Gaston Street. Currently the club has 80+ registered members and recently launched their first website with dachshund merchandise, photo gallery, Calendar of events and lots of information about the Wiener Dawg Races.
